Individual Therapy
At times it takes some extra help to get our lives back on track. We can teach you how to use simple, effective tools so that you can head your life back in the direction you want it to go.
Our clients are individuals who know something is not quite right: panic attack sufferers, victims of the winter blues, sometimes just procrastinators, all looking for relief.
Our clients are students with academic pressures, feeling ungrounded and with less supports than they have had in the past.
Our clients have heard from other providers that CBT may be able to help them with their OCD, their chronic pain, or their sleep issues.
Collaboratively, we can set goals and problem-solve to make great changes happen in as short a time as possible. Read more about our therapists.
Therapeutic Support Services
The Therapeutic Support Services program provides a dedicated, collaborative space for clients to actively practice CBT skills, complete tasks, utilize accountability coaching, and work toward treatment goals. This service is adjunctive to therapy with the primary clinician.
Some examples of additional support and coaching include:
- Help to stay on track with assignments and important projects (academic, personal, or therapeutic)
- Support around activity scheduling and behavioral activation
- Guidance with exposure exercises for phobias or OCD
More information:
Sessions: Session frequency and duration for Therapeutic Support Services are flexible to fit the particular need of the client, and are offered both remotely and in-person. For example, a client may prefer to meet twice per week for 30 minutes either remotely, in-person, or both.
Pricing: These services are offered at a lower rate than regular therapy sessions. Please contact the practice manager for more information.
How to get started: To get started with adjunctive Therapeutic Support Services, established clients at Amherst Cognitive Therapy should discuss their interest with their primary therapist for referral. If you are not yet an active client with Amherst Cognitive Therapy, please contact us for openings and to discuss options.
The Therapeutic Support Services program is designed as an option for clients who are interested in more support than weekly individual CBT sessions can provide. The program is intended to offer a dedicated therapeutic space for clients to work on treatment goals and activities in a collaborative, supportive environment.
Parent Support
There is nothing worse than to witness your child suffering. We seek to provide a compassionate and effective approach to help you navigate the process of helping your child feel better. Our therapists are skilled at assessing the most effective interventions which often do not involve one-on-one talk therapy or “play therapy”. Depending on age, level of development, and your child’s desire to engage in therapy, we may recommend sessions with you alone, with you and your child together, or a combination. This allows us to explore and enhance parenting strategies, communication skills, and the inherent strengths you and your child have to build on. We have found that positive change occurs faster and is more lasting when parents are engaged and involved in the therapeutic process.

Professional Consultation
For professionals looking to receive training in CBT or simply consult on an individual case. Regardless of your prior training and experience with CBT, supervision will be tailored to develop your theoretical understanding as well as enhance your skills to incorporate into your own practice.
